Fernando Beleza received his PhD from the University of Massachusetts, Dartmouth. He is the co-editor of the volume of essays: Mário de Sá-Carneiro: Modernity, Identity, Aesthetics, forthcoming in 2016 from Peter Lang. His research interests include Luso-Brazilian modernisms, Fernando Pessoa, Lusophone postcolonial literatures and cultures, race, gender, and sexuality in Luso-Afro-Brazilian literature and film, and arts-integrated Portuguese language pedagogy in higher education. Currently, he is working on a book manuscript, tentatively titled: Modernist Desires: (Trans)Nationalism, Cosmopolitanism, and Sexuality in Fernando Pessoa and Mário de Sá-Carneiro. Before joining the Department of Languages, Literature, and Cultures, he had taught Portuguese language courses and Lusophone literatures and cultures for over ten years in Europe and the United States.
