Jon Imber: Human Interest
Jon Imber: Human Interest presents portraits by an acclaimed Massachusetts and Maine-based painter completed in the years before and in the months after his 2012 diagnosis with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) commonly referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease. The portraits, painted with Imber’s commanding expressive gestures, intimately record his time with friends and family, displaying physical traces of likeness informed by memories, history, mythology, and the artist’s self-awareness.

Eric Adjetey Anang, visiting artist from Ghana, will be here from September 21-September 26. He will be giving a public lecture Monday, September 22 from 12-1pm and will share his experience building fantasy coffins.
During the week, Eric will be building a fantasy coffin with students from the ARTS 525 Woodworking class. Ultimately the coffin will be donated to the Seacoast African American Cultural Center in Portsmouth. Everyone is encouraged to come to the public lecture or stop by the Woodshop in the Service Building at any point during that week to see the progression of the coffin. There will also be plenty of non-technical work all students will be able to help with, in addition to just watching the process.

Artist Kyle Staver will be giving a lecture on her figurative work on Tuesday, Sept 23 from 12:40 - 2:00 pm. She received her MFA in Painting from Yale and has exhibited throughout the U.S. and most recently at Tibor de Nagy in NY.
