Italy: UNH-in-Italy Program:About Ascoli Piceno
Located in the foothills of the Apennine Mountains near Italy's Adriatic coast, the regional capital Ascoli Piceno charms visitors with its impeccably preserved historic center and the pristine feel of its natural setting. The city's history dates back to Roman times and much of the monumental city center remains little changed since Ascoli's medieval glory. However, Ascoli is no relic of the past. Today the city remains capital of the Marche region and its lively urban center is home to a population of 50,000. Its compact size and friendly population make the city both easily managable and very safe. Every evening the elegant piazzas and narrow medieval streets are filled with locals out for a stroll or clogging popular restaurants and bars. In Ascoli, students will enjoy a friendly and compact city environment, an undiscovered Italian gem, magnificent arhictectural heritage, rich culinary traditions, and easy access to the natural beauty of the Apennines and Adriactic coast.
