Italy: UNH-in-Italy Program:Courses & Dates Summer 2017
Explorations in Nutrition & Culture / EcoGastronomy Program
June 25 - July 29, 2017
Live La dolce vita in the vibrant and unique medieval city of Ascoli Piceno off the Adriatic coast. Students participating in this program take two courses (8 UNH credits) with a focus on nutrition and culture. Every effort will be made to meet the needs to those who require this program to complete their major and all majors are welcome. The program is taught in English
Students arrive in Venice before the group settles in Ascoli Piceno for the remaining four and a half weeks. Three additional overnight trips – to Perugia/Assisi, Rome, and Abruzzo – will also take place throughout the summer. Several class-related field trips in and around Ascoli Piceno compliment the coursework. Examples of past field trips include olive oil tastings, vineyard tours, a visit to a local permaculture farm, or museum visits.
Course offerings for Summer 2017 include NUTR 595 Mediterranean Diet and Culture, ITAL 681 Interdisciplinary Field Seminar in Italian Culture: Museums, Monuments & Italy (UNH Discovery Historical Perspective or Humanities), ITAL 425 Intro to Italian Studies: Italy Today (UNH Discovery World Culture), ITAL 635: Food Aesthetics in Italy (UNH Humanities Discovery), and elementary or intermediate Italian language (ITAL 401 or 503). Students only participating in the Explorations in Nutrition and Culture program will enroll in two courses for a total of 8 UNH credits. Completion of NUTR 595 + ITAL 681 will satisfy UNH's Discovery World Culture requirement. To satisfy the EcoG International Experience requirement, students must also take ITAL 401 (or equivalent) prior to departure.
