Summer Research Stipends
We regret that the COLA competitive Summer Research Stipend Awards Program (see below) has been temporarily suspended. The college will continue to offer limited financial assistance on an ad hoc basis to junior faculty for scholarship-related costs (e.g., funds to support professional travel; funds to pay for research equipment). Faculty seeking such support should follow the normal procedure for requesting funding: submit a statement of research and a budget to your Department Chair or Coordinator and have the Chair/Coordinator forward those documents to Brett Gibson together with your department’s or program’s stated contribution amount.
The College of Liberal Arts (COLA) provides summer support for faculty members designed to free them from other activities so that they can pursue research or creative academic work. Ordinarily, summer term teaching or receipt of other University summer awards cannot be combined with a COLA summer research stipend.
Only tenure-track faculty members are eligible for this award. Priority is given to junior faculty members; however, some senior awards are made. Preference is given to those who have not received internal support in the past three years, to proposals that will make an important difference in scholarly/creative output, and to proposals that will make a significant impact on the tenure decision for untenured applicants.
