First Monday: Delia Konzett "Hollywood's Hawaii"
This talk, by Professor of English Delia Konzett, will focus on the popular representation of Hawaii and the South Pacific in films since 1898. Hollywood’s rhetoric of entertainment works alongside US military and national interests with a mixture of liberal and reactionary narratives and representations of race, democracy, and nationhood.

The Center for the Humanities hosts First Monday events at the Three Chimneys Inn in Durham. These center around short, informal talks by faculty members, designed to give colleagues a window into their work. We reserve fifteen minutes at the end for questions and conversation.
