Grand Challenges for the Liberal Arts Initiative (GCLAI) fosters innovative interdisciplinary curricula focused on grand challenges. It builds upon our existing interdisciplinary degree programs ranging from neuroscience and behavior to women's studies. Groups of faculty are exploring ideas such as: courses in areas like Design and Design Thinking (see info on design thinking guest speaker, Borjana Mikic), a cognate (3-course sequence), grand-challenges projects embedded within existing courses and interdisciplinary majors.
Through GCLAI curricula, students will gain valuable experience in teamwork, communication, problem solving and a range of other competencies that are in high demand in the workplace and will enhance students’ portfolios as they build their plans for career and professional success.
Closely related to the curricular innovations are the Grand Challenges Research and Innovation Grants for students.
