Faculty Research & Creativity

Jeff Bolster
W. Jeffrey Bolster, professor of history at UNH and professional seafarer. His recent book, The Mortal Sea: Fishing the Atlantic in the Age of Sail (Harvard UP, 2012) is the winner of the 2013 Bancroft Prize, the North American Society for Oceanic History’s John Lyman Book Award for the best book in U.S. Maritime History, the American Historical Association’s 2013 Albert J. Beveridge Prize, and the American Historical Association’s 2013 James Rawley Prize in Atlantic History.

The University is ranked among the top 125 research universities in the country. Last year, faculty members in the College of Liberal Arts produced more than $18 million in sponsored research. Each year, our faculty produce books, monographs, and articles in top journals in their fields. Our award-winning faculty include Pulitzer Prize winners, Fulbright Scholars, and some of the most influential scholars, creative artists, and scientists in their fields. We in the College of Liberal Arts at UNH take great pride both in our commitment to teaching and in our devotion to scholarly research.
