INEA: Indigenous Communities in New England and the Arctic
The team will explore possibilities for engaged research partnerships with indigenous communities in New England and the Arctic. We observe parallels between the two regions in terms of ongoing trajectories of environmental change and experiences of environmental injustice in the context of colonialism. Several topical areas present possibilities for comparative case study including indigenous sovereignty, climate-related ecosystem changes, local knowledge, livelihood strategies, water quality conflicts, fisheries and wildlife management, tourism, and youth-at-risk. These problems require convergent (transdisciplinary) and publicly-engaged research approaches.
