Interested students may take Japanese and/or Chinese language and culture courses. Courses can be used to fulfill electives, or fulfill requirements for the Asian Studies Minor (see below), or Chinese Minor and, in some cases, to fulfill Discovery Program requirements and the bachelor of arts foreign language proficiency requirement.

Program Overview

The Department offers courses in Japanese and Chinese languages and cultures.

Students interested in Japanese are also urged to consider study abroad and courses in other departments focused on Japan. A list of some of those courses can be found in the list of approved courses for the interdisciplinary Asian Studies minor. Courses in Japanese are not currently offered at every level every semester. Students wishing to pursue their studies of Japanese must therefore build their semester schedules with available offerings.
