The call for a 21st century workforce skilled in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) is well documented. Attracting and retaining highly effective STEM teachers in P-12 education is an important first step to accomplishing this.
Engaging the assets of rural communities to build culturally relevant science curriculum is one way to retain novice teachers and engage students in science that is part of their daily life.
