Gallery Attendant Job Description


  1.     Provide security for the material exhibited in the Museum of Art by paying close attention to visitors and enforcing the established visitor rules.
  2.     Greet visitors, log attendance, record classes and groups visiting the Museum, conduct visitor surveys, and provide customer services—including giving brief tours of exhibitions to members of the general public and answering general questions.
  3.     On assigned weekends, you will be required to pick up/return the Museum door key from Dispatch at the UNH Campus Police Station. You will be responsible for unlocking and locking the Museum door, disarming and re-alarming the security system, and opening/closing the Museum.
  4.     Perform daily floor checks and report security and other issues—such as missing art, projectors/monitors not working, burned out light bulbs, or labels that have fallen off the wall or pedestals.
  5.     Assist staff members with projects as requested such as—preparing the Museum for opening receptions, setting up/breaking down chairs for programs, housekeeping issues, and trash bag removal.
  6.     Willingness to substitute for other Gallery Attendants who are sick or have an unplanned scheduling conflict.
  7.     Perform other duties as requested.


  1.     Work four opening receptions during the academic year that are scheduled either on Thursday or Friday evenings from 6:00-8:00 pm.
  2.     Work your assigned work shifts through the exam period each semester or find a substitute.
  3.     Work 4-6 weekend shifts during each semester.
  4.     Work a few extra shifts on week nights or weekends for rental events or special programs. Must reply to email requests sent by staff whether you are available to work or not.
  5.     Attend regular staff/training meetings and are expected to learn the material provided. Attendants will be expected to give brief tours of museum exhibitions.
  6.     Willingness to substitute for other Gallery Attendants who are sick or have an unplanned scheduling conflict.


  1.     Must have work-study grant of no less than $1,500.00 per year.
  2.     Responsible, mature, and self-directed college student with good communication skills.

Work Study/Student hourly: $7.50
