Financial Aid

The Department of Music offers several graduate assistantships to graduate students. Applicants should apply for these by writing to the Music Department Chair after applying to the program.  Applicants should specify their interest and abilities. There are also a number of named Music Department scholarships for which graduate students are eligible to apply. Contact the graduate coordinator for more information.

Graduate Assistantships

Appointments are normally for one academic year and may be renewed provided that funds are available and that the student's academic performance, as well as performance in carrying out the responsibilities of the appointment, is satisfactory. Graduate assistants are students who provide instructional or administrative support as specified by the appointing department and are normally supported by university funds.

The stipends for assistantships are as follows:

  • Level 1 - $13,500 all Masters’ students and Ph.D. students with a bachelor’s degree who have less than two years experience as a graduate assistant or a research assistant at UNH
  • Level 2 - $14,400 Ph.D. students with a Master’s degree or Ph.D. students with a bachelor’s degree who have two years experience as a graduate assistant or a research assistant at UNH
  • Level 3 - $15,300 Ph.D. students at candidacy
