Why the Humanities

The Humanities are, quite simply, the study of being human. Humanities students explore the fundamental questions of human existence. What does it mean to be a human being? For answers, humanities students look everywhere: from Greek tragedies and postmodern novels, to pop art and psychological and social theories. These skills can lead to meaningful careers in management and business, law and government, teaching and public humanities such as museum work, the arts, and academia. A recent national survey found that 95% of employers say it is important that those they hire demonstrate ethical judgment and integrity, intercultural skills, and the capacity for continued new learning.
