Explore Pre-Law

A career in the legal professions can help you make a significant impact on people's lives and solve tough societal problems. If your goal is to attend law school after UNH, we're here to assist. A pre-law advisor is available to consult with you about applying to, paying for and thriving in law school and beyond. We sponsor informational sessions, individual advising appointments, and panel discussions with law school students and law school graduates practicing law or using their J.D. in their chosen career.

Accelerated Programs

UNH offers two accelerated programs that allow you to earn both a bachelor's degree and law degree at UNH in six years instead of seven, saving you time and money:

English/Law 3+3
History/Law 3+3

Like most institutions, UNH does not offer a prelaw major. In fact, the American Bar Association (ABA) does not recommend any specific undergraduate major or curriculum for law school admission.

Pre-Law Society

UNH students run the Pre-Law Society, an organization that connects students with professionals in the legal field. While many who join are interested in going to law school, many others are interested in other legal fields such as law enforcement, government, cybersecurity and more.

UNH Mock Trial Team

Mock Trial

Join the UNH Mock Trial Program, open to any undergraduate student, and learn about the legal system and the dynamics of trial litigation.  On a team of 8-10 people, you'll practice the skills of argument, witness examination, evidentiary procedure, trial strategy and persuasive speaking. You'll compete at intercollegiate competitions throughout the year, with a chance to compete in the national tournaments.

What suggestions do you have for studying for the LSAT? Plan your time out! It can be stressful and it’s not effective to study for hours and hours on end, you will burn yourself out. I started studying months before I took the LSAT and used the free khan academy LSAT study program. They format a study outline for you based on your timeline and practice test scores. This allowed me to practice a few hours a day on each section, taking practice tests every so often to become familiar and comfortable with the test and the timing. Also, be realistic, my studying wasn’t perfect and that’s okay! Remember that the LSAT is important but it’s just one part of your application process.

What advice do you have for students who are interested in attending law school? A strong reading and writing background as an English major helped me more than any political science or prelaw classes.

What advice do you have for students who are interested in attending law school? Don’t be discouraged by other people's opinions on not going. I remember letting these opinions get the best of me and making me doubt my decision to apply. Yes, law school is an investment, so you want to be passionate about going but don’t let your passion be swayed by others’ thoughts. Regardless of whether you choose to pursue a career as an attorney after law school, having this credential sets you apart from others in your future career.
