Learning the art of the independent artist through the craft of ceramics
Overview
Katherine Legier is a Sociology and Women’s Studies double major with a minor in Studio Art at the University of New Hampshire. Through the January Research Opportunity Program, Katherine is working with New Hampshire-based ceramic artist, Wendy Jackson, to create a series of ceramic pieces in Wendy's personal studio in Newton, NH. Through this process, she is learning about the skills required to be an independent artist that cannot be taught in a class. She is grateful for the opportunity to network with different ceramic artists and learn from the other inspiring JROP participants through the program process. After graduating in the spring, she hopes to use this experience to secure a studio assistant position at the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts so that she can continue to build the skills needed to nurture her creative passion.
