High School Awards

The high school poetry awards look toward the future by encouraging the work of young poets.  The University of New Hampshire hopes to nurture the passion of talented young writers and bring together members of the poetry community.

High School Poetry Award  $500 to each of three winners

Young poets often first come into their own in secondary school, and the high school poetry awards are meant to encourage students who have undertaken the study and writing of poetry as a meaningful par of their high school education. Students from around the state will submit poetry with the cooperation of their teachers and parents, and selected poems will be anthologized. Winners will be invited to read from their work on Friday, April 12th.

Best High School Poetry Teacher $2500 to each of three winners

English Teachers bring the beauty and power of poetry into the classroom.  They devote themselves to the often-thankless job of revealing the exquisiteness and complexity of poetic language and form to their students.  This award is designed to honor the teachers who have put extra work into fostering their students’ talent and assembling the materials for the contest.
