Grants of up to $1500 are available to faculty and academic partners in support of various endeavors that align closely with the mission of the Responsible Governance and Sustainable Citizenship Project. Discretionary grants may be used to bring speakers to our campus, put on workshops, create and sustain working groups, facilitate promotion of faculty and student research, promote public engagement, and support other initiatives that relate to responsible governance and sustainability. We are particularly interested in proposals that connect faculty and academic partners from different disciplines, which will release up to another $500. Grants may be used for honoraria, but the maximum allowable amount for that line item is $500. Please note that we are unable to fund projects that are not explicitly mission-specific. No retroactive funding is allowed.
To apply, submit to Rebecca Norris (Rebecca.Norris@unh.edu) a succinct description of proposed activities, including an itemized budget and an explicit statement about how the proposal fits within RGSCP’s mission. Maximum length: 1 page.
The management of the grant will be the responsibility of the faculty member. Further guidance will be provided to grant awardees at the time of the announcement. A short final report, including an account of expenditures will be required at the end of the grant period.

Grants of between $2,000 and $7,500 are available to faculty and academic partners for collaborative research, curriculum or outreach concerning the broad theme of civics and democratic and sustainable citizenship. This grant will be the last in a four-year initiative that RGSCP has sponsored, one that has focused on citizenship and democratic governance in New Hampshire, the United States and the World. We are looking to highlight and/or expand COLA’s contributions to the public good, both inside and outside the university.
Faculty members may submit proposals as individuals or groups, and they may involve staff and students in their planning. A panel convened by the RGSCP director will review proposals. Proposals should include:
- Cover sheet with project title, names and positions of organizer(s), and an abstract of the proposal (100 words or less)
- A project narrative (no longer than 4 pages) that covers:
- Purpose and details of the planned work
- Significance of the work to RGSCP, citizenship and the public good
- Projected list of events/initiatives with benchmarked timetable
- How the initiative will be evaluated and publicized
- A budget outlining expenses (please note other possible sources for funding)
- Faculty CVs or biosketch (no longer than 1 page each)
The management of the grant will be the responsibility of the faculty member and the administrative support in the home department. Further guidance will be provided to grant awardees at the time of the announcement. Queries about the grant or an application’s suitability for this award may be directed to Scott.Smith@unh.edu. A final report will be required at the end of the grant period, with a precise accounting of expenditures of the grant monies.
