Graduate School Planning

Thinking of Graduate School?

If you are considering going to Graduate school we encourage you first to talk with the Geography faculty about your plans. As you go through the application process, it is important to work closely with a Geography faculty member. Here are some additional resources that you should consult:

Accelerated Master’s Option: MS in Geospatial Science (GSS)

Geography majors may be eligible to apply for UNH’s accelerated MS in Geospatial Science, a program focused on GIS, remote sensing, and geospatial analysis. The accelerated option allows qualified students to begin taking graduate-level courses during their undergraduate study and count those credits toward both degrees.

Guide to Programs in Geography in the United States and Canada

This book is published annually by the Association of American Geographers and has detailed descriptions of the faculty, programs, facilities, and requirements of virtually every geography department in North America. You can order this directly, with a student discount, from the Association of American Geographers. The handbook also lists theses and dissertations completed in the previous year and contains a directory of geographers in North America, with details about their specialties and contact information. There are also copies in the department if you would like to borrow the handbook rather than buy it.

Graduate Record Examinations

If you are planning to take the GRE you should check out their website, which has descriptions of the tests, a FAQ list and information about test dates, fees, registration and centers.
