Reckoning with History: Confederate Monuments

ON JULY 4, 2020, Professor Scott Hancock, History Department Chair at Gettysburg College and a UNH History PhD, had a tense encounter at the Robert E. Lee monument at Gettysburg National Military Park.  Scott and other protestors were at the monument to urge a more complete telling of history, including Lee’s enslaving of African Americans.  What followed:  a confrontation by white visitors and an argument about whose history monuments should tell – all captured in a short documentary.

Join us for a viewing of the video, followed by a discussion with Scott Hancock and three UNH History students:  Lila Teeters (Ph.D. candidate), Benjamin Bernier (UNH 2020), and Maiah Vorce (UNH 2021).
