What is Global Studies?
The most pressing matters of our time —migration, climate change, violent conflict, human rights, economic globalization, health pandemics—transcend national boundaries and require a global response. The global studies minor introduces you to these worldwide challenges through rigorous interdisciplinary coursework, language studies and a rich international experience. Combine this minor with other majors at UNH and graduate as a critically minded global citizen and responsible global citizen ready to meaningfully contribute to the world.
Why study Global Studies at UNH?
Our global studies minor is available to UNH students, allowing you to combine your studies with disciplines ranging from business and natural resources to political science and the arts. You’ll gain international experience through your choice of a study abroad program or directed international research. You can explore additional opportunities in the college’s study abroad programs and the Hamel Center for Undergraduate Research. You’ll also be able to connect with fellow students through the UNH Model United Nations team.

Curriculum & Requirements
The Global Studies (GS) minor adds a recognized distinction and global context to your primary major at UNH. It was developed for those students who, due to the demands of their primary majors, are unable to complete the more rigorous requirements of the GS dual major.
The minor is declared when the fifth course is being taken. The student should obtain the minor completion form from the department.
Students who wish to declare the Global Studies minor must earn a C or better in all GS course requirements and have a 2.5 cumulative grade-point average.

Global Studies Language Requirement
Functional reading, writing, and speaking ability equivalent to a first-year, second-semester college level (402). Students may take placement tests to establish equivalency, include language study during the international experience, or transfer credits from other institutions.- 2
International Experience - Study Abroad
Minimum of three weeks (or 4 credits). The international experience may include study abroad advisors to plan for their international experience well in advance.- 3
