Q&A with 2023 Philosophy Alum, Kieran Newcomb
Why did you major in philosophy? I transferred to UNH from Manchester Community College with a different major, and first took a philosophy class as an Honors Program offering. I immediately loved it, and had switched majors by the end of that first semester. I felt like I was connected to a long tradition of asking the Big Questions: Why are we here? How should…

Q&A with 2013 Philosophy Alum, Sam Fuller
Why did you major in philosophy? I was “undeclared” when I started at UNH and took all kinds of different liberal arts courses. Philosophy courses were my favorite. I enjoyed reading the texts, analyzing the arguments, and discussing the substance in class. Interesting stuff you did as a UNH undergrad? Thesis, study abroad, favorite class,…

Q&A with 2020 Philosophy Alum, Dylan Wheeler
Why did I major in philosophy? I picked up philosophy in my sophomore year to complement my software engineering degree. At the time, I figured it could strengthen my logic toolkit and maybe help me better understand history. But wow, did it give me so much more. Philosophy taught me how to think clearly, ask better questions, see the world as it is, and grapple with ideas that…

Why did you major in philosophy? I made the shortsighted choice to pick my major based on an article I read showing which majors were best suited for preparing for law school. Don’t let my blind success in this narrow regard fool you—I had no idea what I was doing! I declared before orientation was over, and was one of only two freshman entering with the…

Computer Science Major Working in Psychology Lab
In the summer 2025, Daniel Sixon had the opportunity to conduct research in the UNH Vision Lab with psychology professor Ömer Dağlar Tanrikulu.  Using a Research Experience and Apprenticeship Program (REAP) grant, this computer science student brought his experience and expertise to the Vision Lab demonstrating the cross-collaboration that is possible (and likely to happen!) at UNH.

Alumnae share wisdom with undergraduates in career mentoring event
“Mentorship is one of the most valuable ways alumni can give back to COLA,” says Jon Constable, director of COLA Career and Professional Success. He’s seen the power firsthand. Earlier this semester, Constable, the Liberal Arts Dean’s Office and the COLA Advancement office teamed up for a pilot program to connect high-achieving women graduates with stellar women undergraduates in a networking and...
