Academic Awards

Edmund Miller Prize

This prize, established by a gift from Professor Emeritus Ted Miller, will reward outstanding writing on any aspect of literature and culture in a literature course. Criteria for submission: the essay must have been an exceptional paper written as part of the requirements for an upper-level course in literature (i.e., 600 level and up) during the past 2-semester cycle (Fall 2022-Spring 2023).

Submission Deadline: Friday, March 10th, 2023

Directions

Winners of the Edmund Miller Prize will be announced at the English Department Academic Awards on Friday, 4/21 @ 1:00pm in HS 205.


The following UNH English Department Academic awards are determined based upon faculty recommendations and a winning vote from the English Department Chair. These prizes are awarded annually to recognize academic excellence within English Department courses & major programs.

 

Alfred Ernest Richards Award

For graduating senior(s) who plans to teach and continue the study of literature.


Gary Lindberg Scholarship

For full-time undergraduate student at UNH majoring in English.  Outstanding ability and academic achievement. 


Lucinda and Melvin Smith Award

For outstanding junior English major.


Alice Margarette Mitchell Scholarship

For students of outstanding ability who are majoring in English. 


Mary C. Petrella ’57 Scholarship

This scholarship will reward students who are majoring in English Literature. Preference will be given to students in good academic standing who have distinguished themselves through their studies.


Michael DePorte Memorial Scholarship Award

This award provides scholarship support to undergraduate students majoring in English Literature.
