Who should enroll and what careers does the program prepare you for?

The UNH EdD is intended to prepare education professionals to be successful in ever increasingly challenging leadership roles, whether they are focused on higher education or K-12 education. It is ideally suited to aspiring leaders who are seeking to further advance in positions of leadership. Those positions may include a broad range of higher education functional areas such as student services, program management, admissions, advancement, among others, as well as school-based and district-level leadership. The skills and expertise the program is designed to develop are broadly applicable to roles outside of educational institutions as well, including government positions related to education policy and workforce development. The program is not designed to provide principal or superintendent licensure, however, those with licensure may find the EdD to be an excellent way to take their leadership abilities to a higher level. Students will leave the program with advanced evidence-based problem-solving abilities, as well as strengthened leadership skills that will facilitate more effective change management.

Why choose the UNH Doctor of Education?

The UNH EdD is highly flexible with two distinct tracks, one for higher education and one for K-12 education. It is a low residency program with two 5-day residencies required over the course of the program and the remaining course work offered in a convenient online format. The program makes use of both full-time UNH faculty and well as highly experienced adjunct faculty. A key feature of the program is the focus on an action-learning problem-based approach to the dissertation. The emphasis is on applying research-based approaches to addressing practical problems that leaders encounter. The dissertation itself is problem-based and the requirement is integrated into the residency requirements helping to better ensure successful completion. The structured approach is designed with intention of making a three to four-year start-to-finish more easily attainable. UNH is an R1 university and is accredited by the New England Commission on Higher Education.
