100 Years of UNH Theatre & Dance Celebration

The 2023-2024 Season marks 100 years of Theatre & Dance at the University of New Hampshire. We are in the process of planning some wonderful ways to celebrate. We are looking forward to adding more events to our schedule so stay tuned! In the meantime, here is a preview of some of the great things we have planned.

Fall Semester- The Celebration begins

  1. First show of the 2023-2024 Season!

    1. Factory Girls: A show written by a UNH Alumni which is relevant to New England History and New Hampshire Characters
    2. Plus! A Season Opening Reception!
  2.  Next up we will produce a show of significant history to our department

    1. Blithe Spirit, by Noel Coward
    2. This show was produced as a part of our inaugural Johnson Theatre Season, May 1961
  3. The semester wraps up with continued celebration acknowleding the work of our current students.

    1. Univeristy Prize Plays, Showcases, and Cabarets are student driven work and highlight the great things we are working on today.

The Spring Semester begins the second half of the 100 Years of Theatre & Dance Celebration

  1. The 2024 Dance Concert will be performed in two parts

    1. is a tribute to past faculty that have meant so much to us: The Jazz, Tap Aerial Company performs MAGIC
    2. Revisit of a popular favorite as Don Quixote  once again takes the main stage
  2. The classical slot of the season is a comedic Shakespeare

    1. As You Like it, Directed by a THDA Alumna-
      1. This show will collaborate across the board with Current Faculty, Emeritus Faculty, Alumni, and Current Students
        1. Additionally, this slot runs concurrently with the 603 Fundraising Challenge which our focus has been on raising money to hire Alumni guest artists- what a great way to highlight our desire to connect with Alumni by having a show directed by one.
  3. The final show of the THDA Season will revisit a show that has always delighted audiences

    1. A Little Night Music, by Stephen Sondheim
      1. ​​​​​​​a perfectly crafted muscial in the Hennessy Theatre
After a banner season other events to celebrate the 100th Season will include:

- Photo Gallery update! Our walls will be updated with new photos spanning our rich history. The unveiling will occur at the season opening party in the fall semester.

- Alumni Reunion! Come and visit with old friends and make some new ones! Details and dates to come!

- Lots of posting on social media with blast from the past images, spotlights on what our Alumni are up to, and more...
