Scholarship Application-New Students

UNDERGRADUATE FELLOWSHIP IN THE ARTS

The University of New Hampshire Theatre and Dance Fellowship in the Arts is designed to acknowledge, attract, and retain talented and diverse students with a deep passion and commitment to theatre art and/or dance, who seek the intellectual and creative stimulation and opportunities for personal and artistic development offered at New Hampshire’s flagship university.

Three awards, each equivalent to half off of in-state tuition, are available for incoming first-semester students who will enter the University of New Hampshire as a major in the Department of Theatre and Dance; Two awards, each equivalent to half off of in-state tuition, are available to UNH THDA sophomores and juniors. If a student received a previous award, they may still apply for the sophomore and/or junior level awards; however, previously winning the award does not automatically guarantee continued receipt of the award.  Students are not required to be NH residents to be considered for this award.  If chosen, the equivielant of 1/2 in-state tuition will be applied to the student's tuition bill.

Selection is competitive and based on a combination of audition (performance options) or portfolio & interview (design/theatre technology, secondary theatre education, youth drama or comprehensive theatre), and potential for excellence in your chosen focus area of theatre or dance. Students earning these awards generally have an outstanding grade point average and have extensive involvement in the arts. The scholarship committee could consider any of the following criteria when giving awards: Academic achievement as reflected by information in the completed award application; Artistic achievement in the fine and/or performing arts; Purpose for pursuing a degree in Theatre or Dance in higher education; Perseverance in overcoming educational and/or social obstacles; Significant personal accomplishments beyond the traditional measures of academic and/or artistic achievement, including work experience, field study, or personal accomplishments in spite of adversity.
