S.T.A.R.S. Summer Camps

The UNH Department of Theatre & Dance offers seven different day camps for students in Grades 1-12 that cover a wide variety of skills and genres: Drama, musical theatre, puppetry, aerial arts, dance, theatre company, and technical theatre Camps culminate in a performance for family and friends. 

Summer 2020 STARS Summer Camp Offerings

July 6-109 a.m. to 230pm (check in begins at 830am)

Entering grades 1-3

Everyone loves a good story! They are even better when the stories come to life right before our eyes! Camp participants get to peek into the magic that happens when their favorite stories are turned into live performance. Campers will get to touch, play, and create their own puppets (which they get to take home) and create their own performance using them.  A performance showcase is presented for families and friends on July 10, at 1:00pm. Free tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-15 students. Registration is due by June 1.

Entering grades 3-5

Through drama, music, movement and art, primary students showcase their natural acting impulses. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. A performance showcase is presented for families and friends on July 10, at 3:00pm. Free tickets for the final performance will be available; the total number for each student’s guests is subject to enrollment size. Enrollment: 12-15 students. Registration is due by June 1.

Entering grades 6-8

The Junior Academy is a one-week camp in multiple areas of theatre. This camp teaches skills necessary to jumpstart success in theatre. Classes will focus on acting methods & styles, technical theatre basics, theatre etiquette & language, and more. The goal of the Junior Academy is to build a solid foundation in theatre and prepare students for future participation in the advanced academy and/or future theatrical productions.  There will be a student showcase on July 10 at 5:00 pm which will feature selected performances or designs chosen by each student, demonstrating some of the skills acquired during this camp. . Enrollment: 12-16 students. Registration is due by June 1.

Entering grades 9-12

The Advanced Academy is a one-week intensive camp which explores multiple areas of the dramatic arts. The Academy goes “beyond the basics”, strengthening and challenging students to bring them to the next level. Curriculum of this camp includes: acting, musical theatre, voice, movement, elements of design, stage combat, choreography, and audition techniques in small group sessions. There will be a student showcase on July 10 at 7:00 pm which will feature selected performances or designs chosen by each student.  Enrollment: 12-16 students. Registration is due by June 1.

July 6-109:00-11:00 a.m. (Grades 5-8) & 11:30 a.m. -1:30 p.m. (Grades 9-12)

Entering grades 5-12

For students who wish to explore the exciting genre of aerial arts in-depth, this week-long intensive focuses on the artistry, technique, vocabulary, safety and the unique structure of aerial dance. Appropriate dance/movement attire required. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED. Final class will be open to parents and guardians to observe Enrollment: 12-18. Registration due by June 1.

Cost: $215

Entering grades 5-12

Dancing with the UNH STARS! Dancers in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in our popular Dance Intensive Summer Series. This unique program, offering an array of dance disciplines and styles, will be taught by skilled & passionate dance professionals, including faculty, alumni and students from the acclaimed UNH Dance program. For two weeks, students will study many different dance forms and receive 45 hours of inspiring classes, improving their technique in all genres: ballet, lyrical, tap, jazz, hip hop, aerial, contemporary, modern and partnering. Junior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of at least 3 consecutive years is recommended. Senior Prerequisite: Formal dance training of at least 5 consecutive years is recommended; more advance dancers and those experienced in stage performance and/or dance competition are also welcomed. Appropriate dance/movement attire required. NO JEWELRY OF ANY KIND WILL BE PERMITTED. An aerial dance showcase will be presented for family and friends on Thursday, August 6, time to be confirmed week of camp. A Dance Showcase will be presented for families and friends on Friday, July 24, at 4:30 p.m. in the dance studios. Registration by July 15.

Cost: $425 (includes lunch)

*An open warm up will take place on the first day as well as general placing of levels.  It is at the instructors’ discretion to move up anyone they believe can do so.

Parents/guardians enrolling one or multiple kids in a youth program -- tasks can now be managed through one Family Account!

Creating a family account allows for a higher level of self-service for parents/guardians:

  • Manage a family and its members (including adults) from one family account
  • Eliminates the need to remember user names and passwords for multiple student accounts
  • Perform multiple registrations for multiple family members at once
  • Manage invoices and payments for family members from one family account

A parent/guardian enrolling a child in a UNH youth program should set up a Family Account and manage future registration functions through that account.

Please review the Family Account Instructions online before enrolling in camp.

Payment & Refund Policies: Please review our Summer Youth Program payment and refund procedures. It is the family responsibility to be aware of these procedures.
