S.T.A.R.S. Summer Camps

The UNH Department of Theatre & Dance offers seven different day camps for students in Grades 1-12 that cover a wide variety of skills and genres: Drama, musical theatre, puppetry, aerial arts, dance, theatre company, and technical theatre Camps culminate in a performance for family and friends. 

Summer 2020 STARS Summer Camp Offerings

July 6-10, times vary depending on daily schedule.

For students entering grades 1-3 in Fall 2020

Everyone loves a good story! They are even better when the stories come to life right before our eyes! Camp participants get to peek into the magic that happens when their favorite stories are turned into live performance. Campers will get to touch, play, and create their own puppets.  All of the materials needed to participate in this camp will be available for pick up or delivered to your home (depending on distance to UNH) and create their own performance at home.  Students participate in a combination of live Zoom  meet ups.  Instructional videos, self-guided project work (with or without help at home depending on the age and ability of the student) online rehearsals of their stories all culminating in a final virtual show.  Enrollment: 10-14 students. Registration is due by June 30. 

Cost: $150

July 6-10, times Vary depending on daily schedule, all meet up activities will happen between the hours of 9am-4pm.

For students entering grades 3-5 in Fall 2020.

Through drama, music, movement and art, students showcase their natural acting impulses. Students of all experience levels are encouraged to enroll. Students will learn about the art of acting and the magic of musical theatre. Students will get their chance to create their own piece of a show to be combined at the end of the week in a virtual performance. All the materials needed to participate in this camp will be available for pick up or delivered to your home (depending on distance to UNH) and create their own performance at home. Students participate in a combination of live Zoom meet ups, instructional videos, self-guided project work online rehearsals of their work all culminating in a final virtual show!.  Enrollment: 10-14 students. Registration is due by June 30.

Cost: $200

July 6-10, times Vary depending upon daily schedule, all meet up activities occur between 9 am – 4:30 pm.

For students entering grades 6-8 in Fall 2020.

The Junior Academy includes is multiple areas of theatre. This camp teaches skills necessary to jumpstart success in theatre. Classes will focus on acting methods & styles, technical theatre basics, theatre etiquette & language, and more. The goal of the Junior Academy is to build a solid foundation in theatre and prepare students for future participation in the advanced academy and/or future theatrical productions.  All of the materials needed to participate in this camp will be available for pick up or delivered to your home (depending on distance to UNH) and create their own performance at home. Students participate in a combination of live Zoom meet ups, instructional videos, self-guided project work, online watch parties, online rehearsals of their work all culminating in a final virtual show!  There will be a student showcase on July 10 which will feature selected performances or designs chosen by each  student, demonstrating some of the skills acquired during this camp.  Enrollment: 10-14 students. Registration is due by June 30.

For students entering grades 9-12 in Fall 2020.

The Advanced Academy is an intensive camp which explores multiple areas of the dramatic arts. The Academy goes “beyond the basics,” strengthening and challenging students to bring them to the next level. This year’s camp will challenge students to do an in depth character study and bring that character to life through instruction in acting, musical theatre, play analysis, dramaturgy, technical theatre study and more.  All of the materials needed to participate in this camp will be available for pick up or delivered to your home (depending on distance to UNH) and create their own performance at home. Students participate in a combination of live Zoom meet ups, instructional videos, self-guided project work, online watch parties, creating a virtual life for their character, an online “social” where all the students as their characters will get a chance to meet and interact, plus online rehearsals of their work all culminating in a final virtual show!  There will be a student showcase on July 10 which will feature selected performances or designs chosen by each student, demonstrating some of the skills acquired during this camp.  Enrollment: 10-14 students. Registration is due by June 30.

New for 2020-Family Account!!!

Parents/guardians enrolling one or multiple kids in a youth program -- tasks can now be managed through one Family Account!

Creating a family account allows for a higher level of self-service for parents/guardians:

  • Manage a family and its members (including adults) from one family account
  • Eliminates the need to remember user names and passwords for multiple student accounts
  • Perform multiple registrations for multiple family members at once
  • Manage invoices and payments for family members from one family account

A parent/guardian enrolling a child in a UNH youth program should set up a Family Account and manage future registration functions through that account.

Please review the Family Account Instructions online before enrolling in camp.

Payment & Refund Policies: Please review our Summer Youth Program payment and refund procedures. It is the family responsibility to be aware of these procedures.
