UNH Music Education Day is designed for juniors and seniors in high school who are considering a career in music education working as an elementary music specialist, middle school/high school choir teacher, or middle school/high school band or orchestra teacher. This free event for registrants will include classes in conducting, elementary and secondary methods from UNH professors, sit in on ensemble rehearsals, meet with current students, and experience first-hand what it might be like to be a music education major in college.
Schedule
8:30 a.m. – Pastries and Coffee
9 a.m. – Welcome Session. PCAC room M-135/Bratton Recital Hall
9:30 a.m. – Panel Discussion with current UNH music education majors. PCAC room M-135/Bratton Recital Hall
10 a.m.– Campus tour led by music education students.
11 a.m. – Interest Area Visits.
You can choose to attend and participate in one of the following three activities. You could also move between sessions during the hour if you wish!
Wind Symphony Rehearsal in room M-226.
Chamber Singers Rehearsal in room M-135.
String Area Meeting in room M-220.
Noon – Free lunch at Holloway Commons.
1 p.m. – Mini lessons on music education topics in M-135.
In this session you'll experience some of the topics you would study as a music major at UNH, including teaching and playing the guitar, conducting, and elementary general music.
2 p.m. – Audition Tips, Final Questions and Answers in M-135.
3 p.m. – End of the day, OR… optional additional activities:
3:10-4 p.m. – 3 O’clock Jazz Band rehearsal in room M-226
6:15 p.m. – Wildcat Marching Band in the Whittemore Center Arena for “WMB on Ice!”
