Audition to be a music major 

 

Please see below for audition dates, requirements, and registration. 
 

For most ensembles, formal auditions are held only in the fall. New members are taken in the spring on a space-available basis in Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Bands, and Chamber Singers.


Spring Semester

New members are taken in the spring on a space-available basis in Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, Jazz Bands, and Chamber Singers.

New members are welcome year-round in Symphonic Band, Concert Choir, and the Beast of the East Pep Band. For other ensembles, contact the directors about joining second semester.

Symphonic Band does not require auditions but they are highly recommended for seating purposes. If you plan to join but not audition, please contact Prof. Speed with what you play so we can be prepared for you at the first rehearsal (second Tuesday of the semester).

Singers must prepare BOTH excerpts listed above for their preferred vocal line to perform, sight-read, and have a range check.

Concert Choir

Registration Form

Low-stress part placement consists of vocal warm-ups to find your vocal range and singing “Happy Birthday.” Those auditioning for Chamber Singers and planning to sing in Concert Choir do NOT need to also schedule a Concert Choir audition.

Audition Requirements and Sign-Up

Registration Form

Prepare a 2–2.5 minute song from the pop singer/songwriter genre. Bring sheet music printed in an appropriate key for your voice OR a piano or guitar backing track. You may choose to accompany yourself if you wish to be considered to perform with an instrument.

Callbacks for vocal parts/groups will be held Thursday, August 28, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. All who audition should plan to attend this callback. 

How to Join

No auditions are required for acceptance into the Wildcat Marching Band or Beast of the East Pep Band. For more information about how to join both, please visit the UNH Bands page.
