CANCELED: The UNH Traditional Jazz Series presents Ralph Peterson and the Messenger Legacy via livestream Monday, Feb. 8, 2021 at 8 pm in Johnson Theatre. The Messenger Legacy is focused on perpetuating the music and legacy of Art Blakey, founder and longtime leader of the Jazz Messengers, one of the premier jazz combos in the history of the music. The music of the Messengers used the Hard Bop style as their foundation, then enhanced that style through the compositional contributions of its members. Peterson’s approach is to perpetuate that music by keeping it very much in the forefront of jazz today.
In addition to Peterson on drums, the other members of the Messenger Legacy are Bill Pierce on tenor saxophone, Craig Handy on alto saxophone, Brian Lynch on trumpet, Zaccai Curtis on piano, and Essiet Essiet on bass. Each one is a leader in their own right and all are in demand sidemen and educators. No live audience. Click here for the livestream link.
