Zoom Audition Guidelines

Setting Up for Your Zoom Audition:

Equipment:

• If possible, please use a laptop or desktop computer as sound quality will likely be better than a phone or tablet.
• Download the most recent Zoom app. If you already use Zoom, please be sure you have updated it.
• Create an account (if needed) and set the Display Name.
  • For security reasons, the Display Name needs to match the name of the student auditioning. If you need to change the Display Name, launch the Zoom app and go to “Preferences” on the “zoom.us” menu.
    • In Preferences, click on “Profile”. Then click on “Edit My Profile”.
    •  You will be taken to a login that uses the email address and password used to create the account.
    • Once logged in, click on “Profile” in the left-hand menu.
    • Then click on “Edit” for the first field that shows the Display Name.
• Use of an external USB microphone or USB webcam attached to the computer is welcomed but not required.

Positioning of laptop or camera during audition:

• Please follow instructions given in the Video Audition Guidelines.

Once logged in for your audition:

• If needed, change the Display Name to match the student’s name (see above).
• Verify all Audio Settings:
  • In the “zoom.us” menu, click on “Preferences”, then click on “Audio”.
    • Under Microphone, uncheck “Automatically adjust microphone volume”.
    • Immediately below that, set “Suppress background noise” to “Low”.
  • Click on “Advanced” at the bottom of this same window.
    • Check the box for “Show in-meeting option to ‘Enable Original Sound’ from microphone”.
    • Check the box for “High fidelity music mode”
  • Close out of the “Preferences” box you have been operating in.
  • In the meeting itself, you want to see the words “Turn off Original Sound”. If it says anything else, click on it until it displays “Turn off Original Sound”. (In other words, you want to turn ON original sound.)
