Oboist Andrew Price has recently joined the faculty of the University of New Hampshire Music Department. He is principal oboist for the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, the Boston Landmarks Orchestra, the Bach, Beethoven, and Brahms Society of Boston, and plays on occasion with the Boston Pops Orchestra, as well as the Boston Symphony Orchestra. He is a graduate of the University of New Hampshire and Boston University. From 1984 through 1988, Mr. Price was a substitute second oboe with the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Robert Shaw. More recently he joined the faculty of Boston University as a lecturer of oboe and, since 1997, has been an assistant faculty member of the Boston University Tanglewood Institute. Mr. Price’s playing is featured on the documentary series The American Experience, produced by WGBH. For 18 years, Mr. Price played principal oboe with the Boston Civic Symphony Orchestra, where he performed the American premiere of the newly reconstructed “Largo” from the Beethoven Oboe Concerto in F major, as well as Thomas Lee’s oboe concerto, Persephone, written for him and dedicated to his teacher, Mr. Gomberg. The Boston Globe describes his playing as “beautifully sensitive, eloquent, first rate, and a complete show stealer.”
