Catherine York

Resident Artist (Collaborative Piano)

Catherine is a New Hampshire native and a 1988 graduate of New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, where she studied both piano and composition. She was the winner of the Granite State Piano competition in 1981, 1983 and 1984. Catherine was a winner in the 1988 honors piano competition at New England Conservatory, and also a semifinalist in the Stravinsky Awards International Piano Competition in 1989. In 1991 she won the Commonwealth Competition for Young Pianists and in 2005 her trio won the Chamber Music Foundation of New England International Competition and played in Carnegie Hall.

Catherine was Resident Music Director and Director of Music Education at the Beck Center for the Arts in Cleveland, Ohio between 1994-2003 before returning to her home state of New Hampshire where she has been Music director at Hackmatack Playhouse, Prescott Park Arts Festival, and the Seacoast Repertory Theatre. In addition to being a collaborative pianist at UNH, Catherine is the organist/pianist at Community Church Durham. She lives on a lake in Barrington with her three children and her Bernese Mountain Dog (Penelope).
