This summer I interned with the Reproductive Freedom Fund of New Hampshire (RFFNH). I worked primarily on their social media account creating content to expand their outreach. Every week, I created infographics for Instagram and trendy TikTok’s to catch people's attention, hosted a sex ed trivial day on Instagram stories, and managed the Instagram account. My bigger tasks included hosting a book club in July, leading a disability justice training, and creating a blog post.
My biggest accomplishment was creating and leading the disability justice training for RFFNH. I spent a large portion of my time preparing for the presentation by meeting with other disability justice advocates to get their advice, researching the best way to present this information, and planning how the presentation would land with the audience.
While the training was stressful and nerve-racking, I learned to push myself to become better at challenging skills and to always ask for help or advice when taking on something new. Another skill I learned was how to create a quick and catchy pitch for visitors at our table at Pride events. I had to quickly give them the information about what we do and what resources we provide, while also pitching our merchandise to help fund our work. I quickly adapted my script to each person who came over to get them the most important information and convince them to buy our stickers.
My experience with RFFNH built on my understanding of social justice, and more specifically reproductive justice, which has been a major interest for me as a Women and Gender Studies major. This internship built on the knowledge I learned in my reproductive justice class, helped me understand social justice in action instead of theory, and put my knowledge of social justice to the test.
I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to work with RFFNH and I hope GRSIL will continue working with RFFNH in the future, so other students can experience the positive and educational environment that the RFFNH team provides for their interns.
