An important and life-changing decision I made at UNH was to become a student of CIE's International Affairs dual major. I spent a year in Sevilla, Spain and traveled throughout 10 countries during my two semesters there. My eyes were wide open on graduation day, and less than two months later I was in Santiago, Chile--fully employed and feeding my ability to travel yet another continent.
Spain and Chile were just the first of my overseas adventures, but they were fundamental in rounding out my business plan when I incorporated in 2008 as an Export Management Company. When I finally moved back to the United States, I was keenly aware of how much opportunity existed in foreign trade. Whatever the product is, there are simple rules of economics that dictate where products are made, versus will they will be consumed. I wanted to be in the business of serving different markets, and CIE's IA program helped pave that path for me.
I am the Managing Director of Chaski International, a Los Angeles and New Hampshire based Export Management Company for consumer and specialty foods. I am also an importer of South American olive oil (www.facebook.com/las200). I spend my time between coasts, working also with my family’s business in domestic distribution.
I enjoy my position as President of the Los Angeles Chapter for UNH Alumni. In 2009, I worked with UNH and started a local chapter to gather the 1400 alumni of record in Southern California. The Chapter has an active network, hosts regular events, and is open to all alumni considering moving to LA and the surrounding area (www.facebook.com/groups/la.chapter/)
