A Spanish and International Affairs Dual Major Looks Back on Her College Career
Teagan O'Brien '25

"I walked onto the track team mid-October freshman year. Now I'm a captain. It just ended up working out perfectly."

Meet Teagan O'Brien '25, a dual major in Spanish and International Affairs who is graduating in a few short weeks and "doesn't want to leave." As track team captain and honors student, she's embraced every opportunity that's come her way!

Read more about Teagan's UNH experience in her own words:

Coming to UNH ended up being the best choice I could have made. The Honors College welcomed me automatically, and I discovered a campus full of opportunities I never expected.

From walking onto the track team (now serving as captain!) to studying abroad in Valencia, Spain, I've found that UNH gives you so many chances to try new things.

My academic journey has surprised me — I arrived planning to become an architect but fell in love with liberal arts instead. Now I'm conducting research on indigenous land rights and climate change in Ecuador for my International Affairs capstone and completed a 30-page thesis in Spanish!

The community I've found here has been incredible. My freshman year in the honors dorm introduced me to my best friend as my random roommate, and the track team has supported me through everything. My coaches encouraged me to pursue two majors, two minors, and compete in seven events — who does that?

My favorite class was Philosophy of Law and Justice with Professor Nick Smith. During election season, we debated complex topics without getting angry with each other, challenging our perspectives while finding common ground.

After graduation, I hope to work in sports marketing focused on women's athletics. Being a female athlete has shown me how much the field is growing, and I've already made connections with alums like the VP at ESPN W.

Whatever comes next, I know my UNH experience has prepared me for success!
