Joshua Burgos, Ph.D., joined the University of New Hampshire as a Lecturer of Music Education beginning Fall 2024. Dr. Burgos teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in music teacher education, elementary music methods, methods and techniques in string instruments, and introduction to music.
A classically trained violist, Dr. Burgos earned his doctorate in music education from Louisiana State University with a specialty in elementary education. His dissertation, titled “On Virtue Ethics Theory and Elementary Music Education,” uses teacher research and self-study to bridge gaps between educational research and classroom teaching.
Burgos is a Board of Regents Doctoral Fellow and a Southern Regional Education Board State-Doctoral Scholar Program Alumnus. During his fellowship at Louisiana State University, he taught string music education to preservice teachers and applied viola to music majors and minors. He has been a P-12 classroom teacher and led after-school academic enrichment programs in Philadelphia, PA, and Baton Rouge, LA.
Dr. Burgos’s research interests include educational philosophy, music teacher education, and string instrumental music across all developmental levels. He has presented his research at various National Association for Music Education (NAfME) forums, including its Society for Music Teacher Education and New Hampshire state chapter, the Mid-South Music Education Research Symposium at the University of Mississippi, and Louisiana State University’s College of Music & Dramatic Arts Research Expo, among others.
