English M.S.T. | Teacher
We are pleased to announce that Melissa Rachel, a teacher at the Morristown-Beard School in Morristown, NJ, has completed the requirements for The Master of Science for Teachers (M.S.T.). The M.S.T. is a degree designed specifically for practicing English teachers who want to deepen their knowledge of literature and develop their own skills in reading and writing.
After working on her capstone project, Ms. Rachel feels a stronger commitment to making reading visible to students. It's important for students to see a teacher read something for the first time in order to normalize that reading can be a struggle and that, even for experienced readers, a lot of brain power goes into making sense of words on a page.
