Why did you major in philosophy?
I chose philosophy because I thought it would provide the best training for law school. And I was hooked by Professor deVries’ treatment of the ancients.
Interesting stuff you did as a UNH undergrad? Thesis, study abroad, etc.
I participated in The Washington Center, where I interned with a law firm in D.C. for a semester. As part of the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program, I conducted research in Morocco for a summer on the democratization of the region. I developed this research into my thesis.
What are you doing now?
I’m an attorney at a law firm in New York City. I specialize in tax controversies and transactions.
Any advice for students considering a philosophy major or graduating with a philosophy major?
The analytical tools that one develops in studying philosophy form the basis of what is measured on the law school admissions test. Philosophy majors have a head-start for getting into, and excelling at, law school.
